The Patrol division is comprised of the Sheriff, the Undersheriff, a patrol Sergeant and five deputies. Together they are responsible for patrolling approximately seven hundred square miles of rural north Idaho as well as the communities that lie within.
As with many small agencies, our deputies must be well-rounded and prepared to handle any call that may occur on their shift. They do not have the luxury of calling a detective for a major crime, an accident investigator to investigate a crash or a crime scene unit to process a scene. Each deputy receives ongoing training in various fields in order to ensure their success and that of our agency.
Our Deputies’ primary goal is to keep the peace within Benewah County but they also investigate misdemeanor and felony crimes and make arrests when necessary. In addition to answering a myriad of calls from the public, deputies respond to alarms throughout the county, perform home and business checks, serve papers generated by the Civil Section of the Sheriff’s Office as well as a litany of other activities often not seen by the general public.
